Which tests you sit depends on your role and your service. Your recruitment paperwork lists the ones that count for you. For how the whole day runs, read the complete CBAT guide.
Multitasking
- Figures, Logistics and Groups (FLAG)Roughly ten minutes of multitasking with a short break at the halfway point, running three tasks at once.
- Cognitive Updating Test (CUT)Six aircraft displays (Message, Engine, Navigation, Sensor, Mission and System) of which only two can be open at once, switched from a row of index buttons.
- Situational Awareness Test (SAT)A grid with columns 0–9 and rows A–J, each cell representing 2 km.
- Auditory Capacity Test (ACT)A white ball inside a first-person tunnel, flown on a joystick and kept centred as the tunnel curves, rises and narrows.
- Colours, Letters and Numbers Test (CLAN)Three components running at once.
Numbers and tables
- Airbourne Numerical Test (ANT)Speed, distance and time problems built around a route map.
- Numerical Operations TestForty rapid-fire arithmetic questions, one operator at a time.
- Table Reading Test (MATF)A physical double-sided reference sheet worked against on-screen prompts, in two parts.
Spatial reasoning
- Instrument Comprehension Test (INSC)Two parts.
- Dynamic Projection Test (DPT)A 2D overhead radar picture with three aircraft: CA-A (red) and CA-N (yellow) flying ordered gate sequences (lettered waypoints for one, numbered for the other) plus a green interceptor chasing a moving enemy.
- Directions and Distances (DAD)A passage of text and four numbered answers, with no diagram to work on.
- Spatial Integration Test (SIT)Eight or nine tabs, each showing one isolated layer of the same landscape: farm position, truck, troops, trees, aircraft flight paths with their speed and altitude charts, helicopter paths with theirs.
- Trace Test 1 & Trace Test 2 (TRAC1 / TRAC2)Trace 1: an animated aircraft in flight whose control inputs you mirror on the arrow keys as if you were flying it.
- Visualisation TestsTwo tests.
- Angles, Bearings & Degrees Test (ABD)Two separate visual-estimation sub-tests, both multiple choice.
Perception, memory and attention
- Target Recognition Test (TRT)Four target types monitored simultaneously.
- Visual Search TestA grid of tiles, each holding either a red letter or a unique symbol, with a small black number in the bottom corner.
- Digit Recognition Test (DRT)A single horizontal string of digits appears for exactly five seconds, then disappears and is replaced by one multiple-choice question: how many times did a given digit appear.
- Vigilance TestA 9×9 grid filling with stars, cleared by typing coordinate pairs: row number first, then column, so a star at 2,7 is entered as those two digits.
Logic and reasoning
- System Logic Test (SLT)A numbered index of 15 tabs down the right and a dual-pane display area on the left, so two tabs are readable at once.
- Verbal Logic Test (VLT)Up to about thirteen pages of information on one broad subject (past topics include rocks, insects and plants, and renewable energy) with only two pages readable at a time.
Hand-eye control
- Sensory Motor Apparatus Test (SMA)A red dot drifting continuously across the display and a crosshair fixed at its centre; the job is to keep the two aligned.
- Rapid Tracking Test (RTT)A joystick, a first-person aircraft camera feed and a crosshair fixed at the centre of the display.
